Type 9 Gearbox
We offer a selection of new and reconditioned original Caterham 6-speed gearboxes.
These gearboxes are available with the following gear ratios and are equipped with helical gears:
1st gear: 2,690:1
2nd gear: 2,010:1
3rd gear: 1,590:1
4th gear: 1,320:1
5th gear: 1,130:1
6th gear : 1,000:1
Please Note: Not all gearboxes include the necessary mounted sprocket for a mechanical speedometer drive!
Available in "Road" and "Race" versions. The racing version distinguishes itself by offering a stronger shift lever return spring, along with gearbox housing ventilation. If this variant is ordered, the housing ventilation must be connected to a ventilation hose.
Due to its uniball mounted design, the optional reinforced shift lever allows for quicker shifts and a more precise shifting feel. Furthermore, this replacement lever offers the same imperial thread size as found on a series Caterham, making this a simple conversion that even allows for the continued used of an original gear knob.
The propshaft does not need to be changed when replacing a standard 5-speed gearbox with a 6-speed gearbox. However, it is often necessary to change the rear axle ratio.
